Most sweatshirts exist somewhere between gym kit and actual clothing, and that gap is where a lot of casual dressing quietly falls apart. The lightweight version is supposed to solve this. Light enough to wear through spring and those odd warm days in October, substantial enough to look like a considered choice rather than something you grabbed off a chair. The problem is most of them either pull out of shape after three washes or sit so stiffly they look like merchandise. We've been looking specifically at options in the 280 to 350 gram range, in cotton and cotton blend fabrics that drape well and hold a clean silhouette without needing to be ironed into submission. Collar structure matters more than people think. So does sleeve length. A sweatshirt that fits well in the shoulder and hits the wrist correctly does a lot of quiet work in an outfit. These are the ones that actually pull it off.
