The performance vest has a credibility problem that is entirely self inflicted. Too many of them show up looking like they belong on a cyclist or a guy who just finished a 10K, which makes them hard to wear anywhere that isn't a trailhead. The good ones though sit in a genuinely useful place. Light enough to layer under a jacket. Warm enough to make a real difference on a cold morning. Packable when you don't need them. We've been looking specifically for vests that earn their place in a real wardrobe rather than a gear closet. Clean lines, muted colors, and technical fabrics that don't announce themselves. The kind of thing you can wear over a merino crew and look like you thought about it, not like you got dressed in a parking lot. These vests do the job without making a big deal out of doing it. That restraint is exactly what makes them worth wearing.
